Rationale for Music Curriculum
At Burfield Academy, we believe that music plays a vital role in our students' holistic development. Our music curriculum fosters creativity, builds confidence, and enhances students' emotional well-being. Through engaging activities, students learn to appreciate various musical elements, develop performance skills, and cultivate an understanding of music's cultural significance.
Music is a powerful medium for storytelling and connecting with the world. By exploring beat, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics, our students learn to express themselves and discover how music reflects our collective human experience. From exploring simple patterns in Year 2 to more complex improvisation and composition by Year 6, our curriculum is designed to progressively build skills and deepen students' understanding of music.
By engaging in singing, improvisation, and composition, students experience the joy of making music together, which enhances their teamwork and communication abilities. Additionally, our curriculum is structured around key questions, such as "How does music bring us together?" and "How does music improve our world?" These questions encourage students to think critically about music's role in their lives and its impact on society. Overall, our music program aims to nurture students who are confident, creative, and aware of music's ability to bring people and cultures closer together.
