Rationale for Physical Education Curriculum (PE)

At Burfield Academy, the rationale for Physical Education (PE) is deeply rooted in promoting all students' physical, mental, and social wellbeing. We believe PE is essential in developing key life skills such as teamwork, communication, resilience, and leadership, which contribute to character development. Our curriculum provides structured opportunities for students to enhance their motor skills, coordination, and fitness, enabling them to lead healthy and active lifestyles.

We aim to foster a love for physical activity through diverse activities, including gymnastics, dance, athletics, and team sports. We provide an inclusive environment where every student can experience success and personal growth regardless of ability. The PE curriculum encourages students to set personal goals, develop strategies to overcome challenges, and celebrate individual and team achievements.

Additionally, we promote a holistic understanding of health and fitness, encouraging students to make informed choices about physical activity and nutrition, linking to our wider curriculum themes. We aim to equip students with the skills and mindset necessary to maintain lifelong well-being by embedding a positive approach to physical health from an early age.
