Rationale for Personal, Social, and Emotional Development Curriculum (PSHE)
At Burfield Academy, the Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSHE) curriculum is designed to equip our students with the essential skills, knowledge, and values to navigate life's social and emotional challenges confidently. Through structured and progressive learning, PSHE encourages children to explore and understand their emotions, develop self-awareness, and foster healthy relationships. Our curriculum is integrated into daily school life, ensuring that pupils grow as well-rounded individuals capable of empathy, resilience, and respect for others.
We recognise the importance of mental health and physical well-being, and students are encouraged to reflect on how their choices impact their minds and bodies. Children learn to appreciate diversity, understand differences in backgrounds and experiences, and actively celebrate the unique contributions of others. Through our comprehensive curriculum, children build emotional intelligence, learn responsible decision-making, and develop the confidence to articulate their feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
In line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, Burfield Academy greatly emphasises self-regulation, managing self, and building positive relationships from a young age. These key skills lay the foundation for future learning and interactions within the broader community. Our goal is to support students in becoming active, respectful members of their communities, equipped with the tools to succeed both academically and personally.
